Une nouvelle fa\u00e7on de br\u00fbler <\/strong>
Dans les centrales \u00e9lectriques ou les usines de ciment, on br\u00fble d\u2019ordinaire les combustibles avec de l\u2019air. Mais l\u2019air, c\u2019est surtout de l\u2019azote (pr\u00e8s de 80 % !). R\u00e9sultat : les fum\u00e9es contiennent peu de CO\u2082 (10 \u00e0 15 % seulement).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L’azote est utilis\u00e9 comme transfert thermique notamment n\u2019est donc pas inutile.la combustion en presence de N2 provoque la production d\u2019oxydes d\u2019azote qui sont \u00e0 l\u2019origine de pollutions acides. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

L\u2019oxy-combustion change ce sch\u00e9ma : au lieu de l\u2019air, on utilise de l\u2019oxyg\u00e8ne quasi pur (95\u201399 %), produit dans une unit\u00e9 de s\u00e9paration de l\u2019air. Pour \u00e9viter que la flamme ne devienne trop chaude, on recycle une partie des fum\u00e9es d\u00e9j\u00e0 riches en CO\u2082 et vapeur d\u2019eau.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Comme le r\u00e9sume Lockwood<\/strong> et ses coll\u00e8gues dans ACS Omega (2023)<\/strong>, ce principe \u201cpermet de g\u00e9n\u00e9rer un flux de gaz beaucoup plus simple \u00e0 traiter, domin\u00e9 par le CO\u2082 et la vapeur d\u2019eau\u201d, notamment sans NOx.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les avantages de l\u2019oxy combustion<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  1. Un flux de fum\u00e9es presque sans azote<\/strong> 
    En retirant l\u2019azote de l\u2019\u00e9quation, on obtient des gaz o\u00f9 le CO\u2082 repr\u00e9sente 70 \u00e0 90 % du volume (apr\u00e8s condensation de l\u2019eau). <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Une capture simplifi\u00e9e<\/strong> 
    Dans une combustion classique, il faut des proc\u00e9d\u00e9s lourds pour s\u00e9parer le CO\u2082 dilu\u00e9. Ici, comme le dit Toftegaard et al. dans <\/strong>Fuel<\/em><\/strong> (2010)<\/strong>, \u201cla purification est largement facilit\u00e9e, ce qui r\u00e9duit les co\u00fbts \u00e9nerg\u00e9tiques du captage\u201d. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Une compatibilit\u00e9 avec plusieurs combustibles<\/strong> 
    L\u2019oxy-combustion a \u00e9t\u00e9 test\u00e9e avec du charbon, du gaz naturel, de la biomasse et m\u00eame dans le ciment. Selon un rapport de l\u2019IEA Bioenergy (2022)<\/strong>, elle est particuli\u00e8rement prometteuse dans des secteurs difficiles \u00e0 d\u00e9carboner, comme le ciment ou la sid\u00e9rurgie. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Ouverture vers une valorisation du CO2  <\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Si l\u2019oxy-combustion suscite autant d\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat, ce n\u2019est pas seulement pour capter du CO\u2082, mais aussi pour le r\u00e9utiliser<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Un flux de CO\u2082 concentr\u00e9 et relativement pur ouvre la porte \u00e0 de nombreuses voies de valorisation<\/strong> : production de m\u00e9thanol, fabrication de carburants de synth\u00e8se, carbonatation min\u00e9rale, ou m\u00eame alimentation de cultures de microalgues. Comme le soulignent Artz et al. dans <\/strong>Chemical Reviews<\/em><\/strong> (2018)<\/strong>, \u201cle CO\u2082 n\u2019est pas seulement un gaz \u00e0 \u00e9liminer, c\u2019est une ressource chimique qu\u2019il faut apprendre \u00e0 exploiter\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    En d\u2019autres termes, l\u2019oxy-combustion ne se contente pas de rendre la capture plus simple : elle pourrait devenir un tremplin vers une \u00e9conomie circulaire du carbone<\/strong>, o\u00f9 le CO\u2082 rejet\u00e9 hier devient la mati\u00e8re premi\u00e8re de demain. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
